Editing: Day Three

As we can not edit the house scenes due to us deciding the reshoot it again, today we have decided to start editing the forest scenes we had done on Filming Day Two (17/10/2014). We found this footage in comparison to the Filming Day One footage to be much better. The lighting was consistent throughout and we had good shots for every scene.
We decided to keep this footage and thus began editing it.

Editing: Day Two

Today, we found out that one of our scenes (house scenes shot on 14/10/2014 which are on my blog) was way too inconsistent with light as we filmed in the afternoon therefore it went from light to dark in a matter of hours. In order to fix this we attempted to use Colour Correction

However we soon found out that in order to colour correct all the scenes, it would be too difficult and time consuming to do so.
Therefore today we have decided to reshoot every house scene on another day, the chosen day has been 01/11/2014 as it is a weekend where we could all shoot early.
Also, as we have experience from the first housing shoot scene we know where we could improve and add more shots to make our film even better.

Editing: Day One

Today we started to edit, the main thing we done was the adding of the files to Final Cut Pro and playing around with the editing software to get a feel of how to use it.
We learned how to cut video clips by pressing the key 'i' on the keyboard for the start of the clip and 'o' for the end of the clip. This allowed us to cut the bits where we said 'action' and 'cut' in our film.

Editing Schedule

For our film the editors were me (Thomas) and James.
I have decided to make a schedule outside of lesson time for either of us to come in.

We looked at each others' timetable and decided that when available, I would be able to edit at:
Monday: 12:50 - 13:50
Tuesday: 11:40 - 15:10
Wednesday: 12:50 - 13:20
Thursday: Unavailable
Friday: 11:40 - 12:50

James we able to edit at the times:
Monday: 12:50 - 13:50
Tuesday: 11:40 - 15:10
Wednesday: Unavailable
Thursday: 12:50 - 13:50
Friday: 11:40 - 13:50

This allowed us to make separate times for each of us to go in to edit and spread the task amongst ourselves.

About my last post..

My last post is for a scene we will be screen capping in our film as the photographer goes on his laptop to research. The scene will simply show the actor researching about the 'mysterious figure' he had seen in the woods and he will stumble upon this article which would allow him to gain more information of what he had just seen.

BEWARE: Mysterious Figure seen walking through Epping Forest

DANGER ANNOUNCEMENT AT EPPING FOREST

Author: Thomas Nguyen
In the depth of the Forest of Epping Forest, a lone mysterious figure has been sighted walking back and forth the woods. Last week on the 6th of November, a 16 year old teen, Karl Jenkinson was going for his daily run in Epping Forest - he has been missing since. Metropolitan Police are still on the case however there has been nothing to be found about this strange disappearance. His mother, aggrieved, has refused to give us an interview, only to say "Slender... I saw Slender...". She has now been sent to a mental health institute.

Other passerby's from their vehicles have also seen this mysterious figure appear at irregular times during the day, it seems to only appear when it spots an individual alone. It is advised unless in a group, to avoid Epping Forest until Police Authorities determine who or what this mysterious figure is.

An Artists impression of the mysterious figure.

It is said to have a white face, somewhat suited, often appearing out of long walkpaths or behind a tree.

Sound recording

Whilst we were filming I recorded sound using 'notepad' which is an application available on the iPhone. It's a simple application that allowed to me to quickly note down the description of each sound clip. This would help me during the final edit of the film to know which sound files are associated with certain clips.

Team Meeting: Week 4

During this team meeting we discussed the following:

  • As we filmed, we borrowed equipment from the college, and because it was a half term we had to bring it in during Wednesday.
  • As our battery died just before we were about to film during the forest day, we still had to shoot the ending which was the photographer dropping his camera or Slender catching him.
  • We needed to come up with a schedule of who was going to edit, so this will be done.

Filming Day 2

We filmed all of the forest scenes on (17/10/2014) we had originally planned to take two days however on this day we were able to complete all the scenes by working together and getting to the location early.

Photos of day 2 filming:

Weather Report for Filming Day 2

This is the weather report for our second day of filming. We used this application whilst filming outdoors so that we could have good conditions to film in and get an idea of how long it would be sunny for.

Filming Day 1

On this day (14/10/2014) we have filmed all the scenes for the house.

These are some of the pictures I have gathered of our shoot.

Task 5: Complete Actor Outfits

These are the outfits we will use for our film.

Mysterious Figure:

Photographer (Outfit 1):

Photographer (Outfit 2):

Overall I was very happy with the outfits. It matched my ideas of the outfits I had planned before.

Task 5: Pre-Production - Call Sheet

We will be using this call sheet to plan our shooting days so we know what we're doing and be able to film within a time period.

Team Meeting Week 3 for Task 5

Team Meeting for the third week:

  • We have found a potential replacement for our 'mysterious figure' actor - his name is Adeel and fits the criteria of being tall perfectly.
  • We discussed the days where we would all be free to film.
  • We thought about how we could split the film up so we could do all the house scenes in one day and then the forest scenes in one day - making it more convenient for all of us.
  • We took a look at our photos and narrowed down what exact locations we would want to film in for each scene.
  • We discussed any last minute changes we may need in filming for example if it rains we would do the house scenes first.
  • Made sure that the actors would be available to film when we could and to provide them with food.

Whatsapp Group Messages

As a group me, Romana and James decided to create a whatsapp group to communicate amongst each other outside of college.

This shows us coming up with the idea as it was in the development process.

This shows us as we selected an actor for our film.

We used technology throughout our project to stay in contact with each other and also to schedule film days and meet ups.

Change of Actors

Due to complications with Abubakr being unavailable for filming dates in the half term, we have decided it would be best if we just change our actor that plays the 'mysterious figure'.

The criteria of the actor would be that he would have to be tall and preferably have a black suit to match my previous costume I have set for the 'mysterious actor'.

We have a potential replacement - his name is Adeel however we are still in talks about when he would be available.

Task 5: Pre-Production - Costume / Outfit for Photographer Actor (OUTFIT 2)

This is the second outfit for the photographer actor.

This outfit will be used whilst the photographer is at home and waking up. The clothes will need to be comfortable and something you would wear to sleep.

Top:

As a top I think this would do as it is nothing too flashy and would be something suitable to wear to sleep.

Trousers:

For trousers - tracksuit bottoms will do as they are comfortable, warm and suitable for sleeping.

Task 5: Pre-Production - Costume / Outfit for Photographer Actor (OUTFIT 1)

In our film there is a photographer actor. The normal photographer usually dresses up casually but somewhat formally so we have come up with an idea for the costume.

This is the first outfit of two for the photographer. This would be the outfit for him going to out to take photos.

Top:

As a top, I think a red button down would be ideal for our actor as it fits the idea of something in between casual and formal that would be suitable for everyday wear.

Trousers:

As trousers, Jeans will do as they are suitable for everyday wear and as we are filming the photography scene in the forest, will not get dirty easily compared to other trousers.

Shoes:

The shoes do not matter too much, neither does it have to be branded - I would like it to just be any casual everyday shoe.

Props (Camera):

A DSLR Camera will be used as a prop in this outfit as it is the outfit he will go out in to take photos. I believe that a DSLR camera will make our character look like a professional photographer and he could also use a neck strap making this a very convenient and useful camera.

Task 5: Pre-Production - Costume / Outfit for Mysterious Figure Actor

For our film we have a clear idea of how we want the mysterious figure to look like and the pieces of an outfit needed to fulfill this idea.

We are basing our mysterious guy on a character from a game called 'Slender'. Here is a picture of slender in the game:

To create this figure of our own these are the pieces to the outfit we would need:

To create the face we would use a white morph mask which also would only outline his facial features helping to create a more mysterious feel. This morph mask is available from Argos so we would be able to get this prop with ease.

The next part to the outfit would be a black suit. This fits in with Slender's suit so we decided to use this kind of suit. This suit would be easily obtainable as most people have it from special events they have been to in the past and I also have one should the actor not have one.

The final part to the outfit would be any black trousers and smart black shoes. This is also easily obtainable as it is part of a formal outfit and I also have one should the actor not have one.

Task 5: Pre-Production - Talent Release Form

This is the Talent Release Form for our Actor, Claudio Meszaros. The talent release form will be used as a way of getting permission from the actor themselves and have the consent to use them as actors in our film and post the film on the internet where they can be seen by others.

Task 5: Pre-Production - Talent Release Form

This is the Talent Release Form for our Actor, Adeel Fareed. The talent release form will be used as a way of getting permission from the actor themselves and have the consent to use them as actors in our film and post the film on the internet where they can be seen by others.

Team Meeting Week 2 for Task 5

Team Meeting for the Second Week:

  • We met up during a college break and discussed our schedule, so we know what times during college and outside of college we would all be free to film or do work together.
  • We have got two actors (Claudio & Abubakr) however Abubakr was busy during the half term where we could film so we decided it would be best if he left the role and we opened it up to other actors (still on the look out.)
  • We thought about what kind of costume / outfit we would want our actors to wear to fit the roles they are playing.
  • Also, we thought of back up plans in case one of our actors could not make it as we have to respect that they have their own work to do as they are students themselves.
  • We needed a morph mask for one of our ideas so we looked for locations where we could buy it. We found one from Argos however they were out of stock in most. We found one in Barking so one of us will have to reserve it and go buy it.

TASK 5: Pre-Production: Risk Assessment Form for House

This is the risk assessment for the house stating what could happen / go wrong so we could be prepared to filming purposes.
