Editing: Day Five

Today, we added the title of the film to the video using Final Cut Pro.

We wanted to create an effect where each of the letters of the title fades in,in order to do this we had to time each lettering of the title to come in one after the other in 'title.psd'. We created the fading effect by using the fade in transition however we were able to control it by using the white dots on our line to control the speed of the fade to the actual letter.

The pictures below show that we had achieved the effect we wanted as you could see the letters fading in one after the other.

Feedback on the Rough Cut of our Film

What they liked:
  •  The way the actor is portrayed.
  •  Attention to detail with the camera, able to see him getting ready.
  •  The scenes were well shot.

Our main action points will be to:
  • Complete the editing as we were still in the process of editing.
  • Cut out parts of the house scenes as it was too long.
  • Build up to the forest scenes.
  • Create more suspense to the film by adding in music.
  • During the computer scene, film a reaction shot so we can convey the emotions going through the actors face to the audience.

Who will implement?
  • Me and James, who are in charge of editing.

How useful was this feedback?
  • The feedback was very useful because as we were still in the process of making the film, we could get their opinion so far on it so they could tell us how to improve it before we continue further.
  • By giving us constructive criticism, we were able to plan out what we should prioritise what we should do next during editing.

Rough Cut of Film & Update

We have began the process of editing our film, so far we have got a majority of the clips together however it is nowhere near the final product. This video will show how far we are so far in editing so there will be lots of unedited cuts we would need to produce and no sound, so you can hear raw footage sounds such as 'action'.
One reason for us posting this video now is because we will present this to the class to gather feedback on what we think we can improve on; so that as a group we could edit and improve any parts that we could.

Editing: Day Four

Today during editing we imported the new clips we had of the house scenes onto the mac we were using. This allowed us to begin editing the house scenes.

During this editing session we placed all of the scenes in however we did not have time to cut anything yet hence all the scenes and film seemed very long.

The reshoot of the House Scenes

After gathering all the equipment that is needed the day before, we were ready to film on the day we had set. We began filming at 10:00 and finished filming at 13:00.

These are some of the photos from the reshoot.

We found out that as we had experience from filming the house scenes before, it was much quicker to now film and we got all the scenes done in 3 hours in comparison to 5 hours in our first day of filming.
We also done the screencap scene where the article "BEWARE: Mysterious Figure seen walking through Epping Forest" in my blog was used.

Editing: Day Three

As we can not edit the house scenes due to us deciding the reshoot it again, today we have decided to start editing the forest scenes we had done on Filming Day Two (17/10/2014). We found this footage in comparison to the Filming Day One footage to be much better. The lighting was consistent throughout and we had good shots for every scene.
We decided to keep this footage and thus began editing it.

Editing: Day Two

Today, we found out that one of our scenes (house scenes shot on 14/10/2014 which are on my blog) was way too inconsistent with light as we filmed in the afternoon therefore it went from light to dark in a matter of hours. In order to fix this we attempted to use Colour Correction

However we soon found out that in order to colour correct all the scenes, it would be too difficult and time consuming to do so.
Therefore today we have decided to reshoot every house scene on another day, the chosen day has been 01/11/2014 as it is a weekend where we could all shoot early.
Also, as we have experience from the first housing shoot scene we know where we could improve and add more shots to make our film even better.
